The 2013 Oscar PoolTwo lifetimes ago I worked in the film industry and it was part of my job to see ALL movies. If I wasn’t working over the weekend I was navigating a triple feature at the AMC in Burbank. It wasn’t a chore – it was bliss. I LOVE movies. I love the magic. I love the ambiance. After over 6 years working in film I also grew to love the process of making movies.

After I left LA my relationship with going to the movies faded. Did I really need to go? So I stopped. I went from seeing, on average, 10 movies a month to 0-3 movies a YEAR. Seeing a movie became a total Willy Wonka Golden Ticket situation.

This past December my Mother gave me one of the best gifts on my birthday: movie tickets.

PERFECT.

I have seen several movies since my birthday and now, for the first time in a decade, I am familiar with Academy Award nominees. WOO!

Watching the Oscars is one of my all time favorite things and this year I am rooting for many films.

To get you in the mood here is an Oscar pool from Moviefone that you can fill out.

Based on what I have seen this year (and I have NOT seen every nominee) here are my choices in the top categories:

Best Picture

Les Misérables

Best Director

Steven Spielberg

Best Actress

Jessica Chastain, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’
(note: I have not yet seen ANY films in this category – I am picking Jessica because I want to hear her speech)

Best Actor

Hugh Jackman, ‘Les Misérables’

Best Supporting Actor

Robert De Niro, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’
(note: sigh, STILL have not seen this yet, but I saw De Niro cry on a show talking about the film and it was powerful, so, again, I am picking him because I want to hear the speech)

Best Supporting Actress

Anne Hathaway, ‘Les Misérables’

I’ll be live tweeting the show on Sunday until I fall asleep.
