Note from me: I am part of the Food Safe Families campaign and I am sharing the following information with you because it is good stuff I think we ALL need to know.

To help consumers protect themselves and their families from food poisoning, the Ad Council, USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, FDA and CDC and their Food Safe Families campaign as well as the Partnership for Food Safety Education are setting the record straight on food safety to save you time, money and most importantly, peace of mind, that your food is safe for your family’s consumption.

MYTH #1: “If I microwave food, the microwaves kill the bacteria, so the food is safe.”

Guess what: that isn’t true.

I don’t believe I have ever microwaved food in an attempt to zap bacteria, but for YEARS I have nuked the kitchen sponge after wiping down the counter tops. I thought with just a few seconds rotating around in the glow of microwaved heat that anything that would be a danger to us would evaporate.

Take a look at these other myths. And check out fightbac.org and www.foodsafety.gov/ for more information.

I was not compensated to share this information.
