toddler plays pianoA week or so ago I realized that even though W wiggles, dances, and hums along to my music on the radio he loves to sing the songs he learns in preschool. Those songs are a thriving rotation of: The Farmer in the Dell, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Clementine, Old McDonald, and the Happy Birthday song. He sings them with such gusto that I am forced to turn down the radio and yield the stage to the backseat arena happening in his carseat.

This is all to say that I am about to break down and purchase some kid’s music. But I can’t just go directly there, I need to ease into this. I worked at a toy store the summer before my freshman year at NYU and I am a wee bit damaged from all of the kid’s music that I had to listen to that summer. There are some artists (that will remain nameless) that I will refuse to bring into my ear range ever again.

My dream album would be something like all of my favorite artists singing all of W’s favorite songs. I want Adele to sing Farmer in the Dell. The Doobie Brothers to sing Old (Michael) McDonald. Obviously Cake would have to sing the birthday song and maybe Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite boys could do Clementine (you know, because they are from Orange County).

I talked about this on Facebook and I got some interesting suggestions but none really grabbed be. I’m sharing the list here in case it is something that might rock your world. I’d also love to know if you have any ideas for where to look in my music quest.
