Hard to believe that BlogHer is just 3 weeks away. Soon I will be sharing some news about that. I’ve been waiting until it was official and stuff and we are inching closer. Close enough that I just wrote those last two sentences. This means I will be asking your input on how to not look like dreck while in public. This is the beginning of my quest for the best plus size dress…

But first – let’s catch up on summer camp!

Day 14 – How do you typically dress to run errands? Do you think bloggers dress better or worse than “regular people”?

It is no secret, I believe myself to be a horribly attired person. I once frolicked in errands wearing cute sundresses and hot pink ballet flats and now I am absolutely the person that has run errands in the same clothes that she wore to bed. And if pressed I would confess that the clothes that I wore to bed were also the clothes that I wore the day before. This means that I tend to live in lounge wear. It is lazy and lame and when I am alert enough to have the sense to be, I am ashamed.

I was doing better recently about neatening up before leaving the house, even putting on lipstick and wearing my hair down. But then two things happened: THE HEAT and an abundance of work. I am functioning on 4-5 hours of sleep. When I wake up I am busting my tail to get W dressed and fed and us on the road so I can get him to school on time so I can get in a full chunk of work time. (luckily I have learned to pack his lunch and backpack the night before)

I think all bloggers dress better than I do. I think most people in general do. But I have not made pretty clothes for me a priority in a long while. Sure I will stumble across a cute dress or shirt in a magazine and even go so far as to look it up on line to see if it is in my size. But at the end of the day money isn’t going towards that- it goes towards W’s school or W’s diapers or gas or car insurance or – well you name it. EVERYTHING is more important.

{insert my huge angst over what to wear to BlogHer in 3 weeks…}

Day 15 – What was your college experience like? Were you involved in any clubs, groups, etc? If you did not go to college what was your experience like after high school?

I went to a college that pretty much didn’t have a campus. Dorms and classrooms were spread out all over the lower east and lower west side of NYC. It was amazing. I lived on the 12th floor of a dorm my freshman year. (I shared a suite with 9 other girls. Yes. There were 10 of us. It was a two story suite. Yes.) My housing after that first year was: one summer sharing a one room basement apartment with two film majors next to a Turkish bathhouse, 1.5 years living in a giant 5 bedroom house in Brooklyn, and then my last years in NY were in a 2 bedroom brownstown in Brooklyn with one of my roommates from the previous Brooklyn house.

I loved a lot about my college experience. It was also a very hard time. I battled an eating disorder, I had crazy and exhausting jobs to afford school and rent, I smoked way too much and was just about as dramatic as you can imagine an 18 year old theatre major to be. You can read more about my era in NYC in this post.

Day 16 – How many friends of yours blog/tweet/actively facebook? Has social media helped or hurt your friendships?

I can probably count on one hand the number of friends of mine that blog/tweet that were friends of mine BEFORE blogging. I will now say that some of my friends that I consider to be my most dear I met BECAUSE of blogging. I am sure that many of my long time friends are sort of shoulder shrug about social media. I don’t think it has hurt any of my friendships. I do find it sometimes complicated to explain blog friends to non-blog friends. But I think my having a blog has been a quick and easy way to keep up with me.

Day 17 – What is your favorite thing about the weekend? Do you take a break from blogs or is this when you catch up?

I love that my Mom is home during the weekends. W and Lolly (my Mother) have these fantastic weekend adventures and it reminds me so much of my special weekends I would have with my Grandfather. My Grandfather would make going to the hardware store this HUGE and special event – and I see Mom doing that with W and I love it. I try to catch up on writing on the weekends, but more importantly – sleep!
