Oscar Pool

The 2013 Oscar PoolTwo lifetimes ago I worked in the film industry and it was part of my job to see ALL movies. If I wasn’t working over the weekend I was navigating a triple feature at the AMC in Burbank. It wasn’t a chore – it was bliss. I LOVE movies. I love the magic. I love the ambiance. After over 6 years working in film I also grew to love the process of making movies.

After I left LA my relationship with going to the movies faded. Did I really need to go? So I stopped. I went from seeing, on average, 10 movies a month to 0-3 movies a YEAR. Seeing a movie became a total Willy Wonka Golden Ticket situation.

This past December my Mother gave me one of the best gifts on my birthday: movie tickets.

I have seen several movies since my birthday and now, for the first time in a decade, I am familiar with Academy Award nominees. WOO!

Watching the Oscars is one of my all time favorite things and this year I am rooting for many films.

To get you in the mood here is an Oscar pool from Moviefone that you can fill out.

Based on what I have seen this year (and I have NOT seen every nominee) here are my choices in the top categories:

Best Picture

Les Misérables

Best Director

Steven Spielberg

Best Actress

Jessica Chastain, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’
(note: I have not yet seen ANY films in this category – I am picking Jessica because I want to hear her speech)

Best Actor

Hugh Jackman, ‘Les Misérables’

Best Supporting Actor

Robert De Niro, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’
(note: sigh, STILL have not seen this yet, but I saw De Niro cry on a show talking about the film and it was powerful, so, again, I am picking him because I want to hear the speech)

Best Supporting Actress

Anne Hathaway, ‘Les Misérables’

I’ll be live tweeting the show on Sunday until I fall asleep.

  1. Obviously, since I’m the designated W-sidekick when you are not around, I am waiting to see all movies via NetFlix or Cable… Just hope I don’t have to wait for them to be on AMC before I catch them!

So, here are my scattergory answers:
    1. What is the name of your favorite movie of all time? (or at least one of your top 3)
    2. Something you would wear to the Oscars?
    Peau de soie
    3. Something you would stuff in your bra under your gown for the Oscars?
    4. Something you would eat/ drink before attending the Oscars?
    5. Something you would shout out to the balcony if you lost an Oscar?
    6. Someone you would thank if you won an Oscar?
    7. A celebrity you would hook up with at the Oscars?
Pauley Perrette and Cote de Pablo and Donald P. Bellisario
8 A celebrity you would avoid at the Oscars?
    P. Mallikharjuna Rao
    9. Something you would overhear backstage at the Oscars?
    “Prompter’s broken!”
    10. Something you would say to Ryan Seacrest on the Red Carpet?

  2. Silver Linings Playbook was the only movie I have seen this year so far ( and I may have seen only 1 movie last year…) but I HIGHLY recommend it. Even though it has been out a while, the audience was really into it.

  3. I haven’t seen any movies this year that I can remember, except the one or two we took Elizabeth to. I’m not that much of a movie person and it seems that I don’t have the energy anymore.

  4. It’s hard to be a girl who doesn’t really like movies and doesn’t ever watch awards shows in February.
