We are still using an incentive chart at home to help inspire good behavior. There are still rocky days, but it has been helpful to have goals to work towards. Recently W achieved enough stickers to earn a visit to the aquarium.
His next goal is to earn enough stickers to go see a movie IN A MOVIE THEATRE!
We recently watched the trailer for the soon to be released movie, Escape From Planet Earth and W immediately responded to the preview. Space ships! Aliens! Comedy! When W gets enough good behavior stickers we will be making a trip to the theatres.

Oooooh fun! I didn’t know this was coming out but my kiddo is absolutely obsessed with aliens/space.
My favorite thing about going to the movie theater is the dramatic environment – the large screen, the lights turned off, the special seats and the surround sound. It’s easier to forget you’re watching a movie – feels more like you’re experiencing it!
Oh yay! My boy is too young to appreciate movies, but I certainly do!

I haven’t been in a movie theater since 2010, and I miss it! I can’t wait to be able to take my two year old son for his first movie. My favorite part is being able to focus only on the movie, the darkness…and definitely the buttered popcorn!

popcorn, candy and a pop and sitting in the front row
so close to the screen so that it feels like you really are in

I don’t know how to pick one favorite thing about seeing a movie in the theater…as others said above, it’s the whole experience. Being surrounded by it in the theater is so different from watching a movie at home (even if you have a huge TV). Oh…and I REALLY love popcorn!

I really like the hot popcorn. With butter. Yum. I love that I can shove it in my mouth and no one is (hopefully) watching as some of it falls down the front of my shirt. The escape from reality for just a few hours is so nice.
My favorite thing is getting to do something different! We are on such a tight budget the past few years that doing something as a family of 4 like going to the movies is a treat! My kids love the big screen and the surround sound.
Popcorn. Really, it’s my favorite thing about going to the movies. I will save calories for it.

Oooh, Elizabeth just asked me this morning if I could take her to a movie.
I think my favorite thing about the movie theater is that it forces me to pay attention. I never watch a whole movie at home because I am too busy doing other things.
I really like the sound of a movie theater. It reflects off the spacious walls and creates an acoustic effect that nothing else can.

The atmosphere – the giant screen, the dark, the loud, the audience reactions. And it’s great to take a little one to the movie theater (just don’t expect to be able to watch the movie too much)!

By the way, we have hit a bit of a rough patch with my toddler, and I’m thinking of trying the chart. The part that makes me hesitate, though, is the end part. How/when do you stop using it? I need a good exit strategy–thoughts are much appreciated!

I have promised my six year old son a date night to the movies soon … he’s only ever been once, to a birthday party there, and it was absolutely not a normal experience.
I just love the feeling of watching a movie in surround sound while eating some delicious, buttery popcorn
Best parts- leave the house and enjoy treats with a movie I chose.
I like that the sound and picture quality is so much better than at home- and also seeing my kids really enjoy the movie.

I love the cool, dark, quiet theater, & no one demanding anything from me for 2 hours.
This is going to sound lame, but in the movie theater I am forced to do nothing else but watch the movie from start to finish. At home, this never happens. I always do a million other things while movies are on. I do my nails, I do crochet, I fold laundry, I sweep, I mop, and so on and so forth. In the movies, I have to sit there and I have to watch it and that’s that!!
Oh what I love about seeing movies in the theater…is first the hot buttered popcorn! YUM! And…I love that its quiet…and you can sit and watch without all the distractions. I am horrible at home with sitting and watching movies. I keep getting up and doing things! So, I LOVE going to the movies!
