Summer Camp in the Blogosphere

by on June 28, 2011

blog summer campWelcome to the JULY ASIDE! I saw this idea on Strawberry & Nutella’s site and thought it was super clever. With their permission I have re-imagined a version for the month of July. Check out their June post as well as An Offering of Love’s June post.

31 Days of Blog Juice at Creating Motherhood

Think of this as summer camp in the blogosphere. We’ve all been dropped off at a month-long camp with fantastic cabins and great wifi. Each night we gather at a looooooooong table over a yummy meal. And as the fireflies dance outside someone puts on some sweet sounding Bessie Smith and we talk about something. We get to know each other better.

Since summer camp usually has a schedule I am going to post the list of every topic now. This way you can skip ahead and write and schedule posts when you have time, at your leisure…It’s summer time, after all!

Be crafty, be silly, be campy, be serious, be YOU. Respond to each day’s prompt however you want.

Day 1 – Provide a photo or sketch or dramatic rendering of the space where you normally blog
Day 2 -What were you like in high school? What extracurricular activities, if any, did you take part in during high school? Did you consider yourself a writer?
Day 3 -What are your guilty pleasures?
Day 4 – What has most surprised you about being an adult? What have you learned about yourself through blogging?
Day 5 -What do you prefer to do on your birthday?
Day 6 – When was the last time you tried something new? What was it and what was the result? Have you ever done something just so that you could blog about it?
Day 7 – What’s your favorite thing to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Do you read food blogs or would you ever consider writing one?
Day 8 – If you had to teach something, what would you teach? (If you DO teach, when did you discover your love for teaching/the subject?) Do you think blogs can play a role in education?
Day 9 – What is the most important lesson you learned from your own mother (or other primary caretaker)? What do you imagine the name of your Grandmother’s blog would be and what would she write about?
Day 10 – Share your favorite recipe (or two) (see! You CAN be a food blogger!)
Day 11 – How are you different from your parents? How are you the same? Do your parents and/or family know that you write on-line?
Day 12 – Tell us about the first time you got drunk or tipsy (as far as you can remember…) Do you ever stop yourself from telling too much when you write on-line or do you think you tell too much?
Day 13 – Tell us about the best job you ever had, and the worst. Do you ever blog or read blogs while at work? Do you ever quote or reference blogs while at work?
Day 14 – How do you typically dress to run errands? Do you think bloggers dress better or worse than “regular people”?
Day 15 – What was your college experience like? Were you involved in any clubs, groups, etc? If you did not go to college what was your experience like after high school?
Day 16 – How many friends of yours blog/tweet/actively facebook? Has social media helped or hurt your friendships?
Day 17 – What is your favorite thing about the weekend? Do you take a break from blogs or is this when you catch up?
Day 18 – How do you feel about astrology? What’s your sign, baby, and do you think it matches your personality?
Day 19 – How do you (and your partner if applicable) feel about PDA? Does your husband/wife/partner know that you blog and if so are they involved?
Day 20 – What is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you? Did you repay the kindness? Did you blog about it?
Day 21- What names would you NEVER name a child or pet? What name do you wish you had been named? Do you like the name of your blog?
Day 22 – What is your most beloved childhood memory? I’d love it if you shared a photo of yourself as a child with this post!
Day 23 – What are your favorite activities to do on-line? Is there more to do beyond blogging?
Day 24 – What is your dream date? Have you ever dated anyone you met from the internet?
Day 25 – What did you want to be when you grew up? Why and/or how did that change over time?
Day 26 – What is/are the best piece(s) of advice you’ve gotten or can give others? Do you consider yourself a blogger that people would take advice from? Why or why not?
Day 27 – Which movies or tv shows do you think are the most accurate portrayals of your life? If you could write the next scene of your day what would it be?
Day 28 – What size family do you come from, what size family do you want, and why?
Day 29 – If you could live anywhere for one month this summer, where would it be and why? Would you ever unplug from the internet for a month or longer to go on such a trip?
Day 30 – What is/are the most memorable questions or reactions you’ve gotten in regards to being a blogger?
Day 31 – What advice would you give someone who is just starting a blog today?

If you want to sign up for summer camp just let me know in the comments now. I am creating a list so we know who will be packing up and putting labels on their underpants. You DO NOT have to write something every day – you can be a day camper if  you like! On July 1st I will keep a post at the top of the site with all the campers – you can add your name at any time!

A complete list of participating campers can be found here. Glad to have you!

Can’t wait to tell my kids I’m going to summer camp without leaving the house. :-)

I cried buckets during my first away-from-home camp expereince. I imagine there will be no tears, only lots of laughter during THIS camp.

And there better be S’mores.

Cant wait for camp!

I’m so in on it. I needed something exactly like this to charge me up and get new content flowing. I want to do all writing from here on out on my new blog, even though it’s not pretty yet. Possible stupid question – even though we’re working on my new blog, it won’t screw anything up if I start writing and if people start commenting, right?

Great idea! It has been ages since I have been to summer camp. This will be even better, because there is no actual camping!

I could use a fire under me to blog more. This could help!

But I find it interesting that Day 5 is about birthdays, and Day 5 is my birthday. How did you know?

OK!!!! I’m in. I haven’t blooged on my blog in probably a year or so, so this will get me back on it. I have missed it, just no motivation. And I do have to tell you, I just got back from being the cook at a summer camp for 7 days. It was a children’s bereavement camp through Hospice and it was amazing! The strength of children to go through life’s hardest times and come out laughing… they are truly the greatest wonders. So I am definitely down for something a little more light hearted and especially if it’s a journey with you! Love ya!!!

Sign me up–I haven’t been to summer camp in a few years–and then it was as an adult counselor instead of a camper. :)

VA Blondie’s URL is http://persistentyellow.blogspot.com/

I always wanted to go to summer camp, but when you’re a kid living in a rural area, no one goes to camp–the idea being that camp was for city or suburban kids. I’m in!

I would like to participate. However my July is crazy and I’m already worried about not getting to blog regularly. So, I think I’ve decided to “go to blog camp” in August if that is ok.

GREAT idea, by the way! I love it!
