For the first time in ages I am really without

by on July 13, 2010

I had a couple of ideas for what this week’s theme should be for Photo Friday. I got big time talked out of one idea (but it might resurface in a few weeks just because I still think it would be interesting) and another idea might fit later. Really I wanted something simple and something that would have an “awwww” factor. Which is why this week’s Photo Friday is all about pets. More than one pet? You can submit more than one photo. Allergic to pets or don’t have a pet? How about you sketch something and share it?

This is one of the first eras of my life where I am sans pet. Ever since I adopted a stray black cat that was  hanging around the parking lot of my Great Grandmother’s nursing home in the early 80′s I have had a pet. It went a little something like this: Jessie, Maximo, Phoebe, Frances, Winnifred, Mr. Edith, Admiral Wyatt, BG Talula. They were all loved and now they have all passed on.

The death of Admiral was one of the hardest deaths of any that I have known. I dealt with it mostly alone as Mother had already moved to Florida for work and GM was at the height of unhinging with Alzheimer’s. His illness and death was sudden and surprising and I was so ill equipped. He was so young.

And then there was BG, who saw me through an entire era of my life in Los Angeles and helped me take care of GM and get ready for W.

This is really the first time in my life that I am without pets of my own in a proper sense. This is not to say that I don’t have much love for Mother’s cats and the ever clever Charlie dog. But they tolerate me and do not claim me the way a heart to heart connected pet might. They are Mother’s pets. & cover your ears, but I feel like we are siblings if anything. (I KNOW.)

Oh good grief- am I really getting all emotional about this? Apparently. I have been crying over pretty much over any and everything this week so it would make sense. (here is where I reveal: super stressed, lack of sleep, and W is working on his 2 year old molars 7 months early. And I am sucking hard core at multitasking because I am not getting much sleep because of the molars and then I am zombie lady and so pretty much hearing a random Wilson Phillips song will make me cry these days…hold on for one more day…)

ARE YOU STILL HERE??????

Photo Friday theme this week: Pets

(Don’t let me down, people. I have a post coming later this week that is going to have me weeping all day. I need to know that on Friday there will be cute four legged photos to get me through!)

You have me scheming to figure out a way to get the dog and cats all together in 1 photo. HA! This is an apropos week (again…how do you do this?) as we are dog sitting and snake sitting (no, really, we are), so we are up 2 animals. Feel better, Calliope….and BIG GIANT HUGS.

I cant wait for you to meet my chocolate lab…scratch her back, and she may jump in the car to go home with you.
Fur babies really do mean so much–its hard loosing them. Great way to pay a tribute to our furry pals :)

it’s the first time I’m without too.

funny you should post this today, as I just looked at the calendar and realized that exactly 8 yrs ago, we brought home the sweetest kindest most wonderful puppy ever. puppy adoption day, so to speak. but she’s been gone 3 yrs and we are just now itching for another pup.

OOooohhh ho – Our cats are the biggest jerks and if I could humanely and legally drop kick them to the curb then I sooooooo would. But our son adores them and they are “his” cats – funny cuz take care of them – even though they continually shit by my back door no matter how clean I keep their litterboxes. So, having said all that I will participate because they are damn cute and 2 years old now. Maybe it’s a jealousy thing for me, because they have in no way chosen me or even respond to me other than run away when I catch them in the act of crapping on my floor – I have had cats before whom I adored and who had absolutely chosen me as their care taker – I miss that. Maybe that’s why I want a dog so badly – to feel that loyalty again. blecch – I see how this day is going to go…….. anyway – prepare for pictures of Laser and Skull sister cats extraordinnaires —- they are pretty cute. love you!!!

I am sans pet but will try to think of something to cheer you. However, I am TOTALLY curious what you were talked out of. I bet it was interesting…
