Not ready to say goodbye to winter

by on March 19, 2010

I know so many of you are itching to put away the wool socks and break out the flip flops, but I am just not there yet. Most likely this is because I have not experienced a good & proper winter for over 13 years. When I fled New York for the heat of Los Angeles I didn’t even pause to consider the weather or how much I would miss a turtleneck.

And sure this particular winter in the mid-Atlantic has been one for the record books with giant snow storms and blizzards, and I am not saying I want more crazy storms…but I wouldn’t mind some nice 45 degree days with beautiful blue sky. Those are the kinds of days where I imagine I would don a soft plaid scarf and plush mittens and feel my cheeks pink up from the chill. I feel more alive in cool weather, more alert, more invigorated and inspired.

It seems more permissible to be depressed in the winter…

I am totally sad to see the temperatures for the weekend- in the 70′s. I KNOW! You can call me silly, but I am just not ready for 70 degree weather. I’m not ready to let go of winter and all that it was for me, for us. ‘Spring can really hang you up the most’. At least that is what Bette Midler sings and I believe her. It’s the end of an affair with a beautiful season. Winter is leaving me.

Will you be sad to see winter go? Or are you already painting your toes hot pink and laughing at my sad, turtleneck craving self?

Do you know what SOPA is?

I usually am excited by any change in seasons b/c I am ready for diff. weather after awhile. But I TOTALLY hear you about it being more permissible to be depressed in winter. Beautiful days can stress me out b/c I worry I am “not spending them right.” Seriously.

Oh GOD no. Summer summer summer please. Even here in Southern Louisiana. I am lost when I have to wear socks. I think it was way too many years in the upper Midwest.

Oh man, I SO feel you. Having grown up in New England but having lived in L.A. for the past almost-11 years, I miss winter so much. We had a lot of rain this winter and it’s been pretty chilly, but the past few days have been in the 80s and I’m just not ready for seven months of heat and no rain.

I just want to say yes, you’re silly *teasing*

I think it’ll be a lot cooler next week, but winter seems to officially be over, sorry.

But it’s only 6 months until fall! That’s when you get the 45 degree weather.

I like spring – not too hot, not too cold, daily variety in the weather, blooming stuff. I like all the other seasons too, but spring is my favorite. Of course, I’m wearing turtlenecks until May anyway…

Totally not laughing at you. I live in the frozen tundra (Minnie-snow-ta), although I’m really looking forward to it warming up here, there is nothing better than the crisp fall air. I love the changing seasons.

Today is a perfect day. Pssssssst some hairspray on it and let me keep it forever. It’s almost Monterey weather .

Fall, then spring, then winter, then summer.

Despite the fact that my body so desperately needs the sun that summer provides. Ugh, heat. Nothing worse than heat but HUMID heat. Why do I live in a swamp again?

My toenails are already hot pink and today I’m wearing my open toed high-heeled mules. It’s funny how we are all different. I’m perpetually cold and I spend the winter months wrapped in sweaters and pashminas and just waiting for the warm weather to return. Don’t worry though, we’re sure to have some more cool weather around here before spring is really here. ;)

I’m a summer girl all the way. Give me 85-90 degrees and humidity too. I am about to go and celebrate our 70 degree day by lounging on my deck with bare feet and a beer.

I was at the beach today playing frisbee with my little girl and I was wearing a bathing suit and it was awesome!

You’ll never hear me saying it’s too hot out.

With the great weather and being able to break out a different wardrobe comes more observations.Like the fact that without the binding layers of winter body parts now jiggle, like belly fat.I even searched my room for my favorite nail polish I’m Not Really a Waitress so i can pop into a nail salon and have my toes done. *gasp* heaven forbid i want to wear my strappy sandals and the toes are naked.

My bicycle awaits to get me trim and slimmer:)

It’s a whole new list of must do’s……..

I voted spring b/c I live in Fla. If I was up north, it would be Summer. :D And I am SO READY to see this cold Fla winter go. Ironic that you missed one of the longest, coldest fla winters in history. haha

I am so ready for spring, this winter in Atlanta has been too long and extraordinarily cold. I love the snowfalls we had as they are such a treat here, but I moved to the South from Michigan to escape the snowy, harsh, gray slush on the side of the roads winters.

The only way I am not ready for spring is that my toes are not ready for a manicure and I am DYING to break out the sandals. SO- I will break out the sandals tomorrow anyway and hope everyone is too busy looking at my adorable son to notice my feet!

I, too, enjoyed winter as I haven’t been around it in 5-6 years. It doesn’t need to be 80 (and hopefully those days will be few here in the midwest), but I do like the 60′s. Not too cold and not too warm, but I do not like the extreme changes we are having this weekend. Just make up it’s mind, that’s all I ask.

For me it’s a toss up between fall and spring but I’m very much not a fan of winter. Pretty much in any form. I’m so freaking happy that it’s warming up and feeling nice. It makes me feel more up too which is always a nice boost for me.

Spring is my LEAST favorite season. It tends to depress me….. oh so much is that the case this year. I feel like spring has just brought me five thousand more reasons to detest it. I say that we can keep winter!!

Girl you crazy! BRING ON SPRING!! Yes to 70 degree weather!!!!

The main reason being that two kids under the age of three good weather means more outside time and thus socializing with adults at the park! WOOHOO!

I do love winter but, this year, I am really, really ready for spring. My kids need outdoor time before they drive me off the deep end…LOL.

I crave sunshine….spring rain, summer flowers, the crunch of fall leaves are all great – but winter just drags on and on and depresses me. I am definitely not a winter person!
