Hurrah! We went to the zoo! And holy heck are my legs sore from all of the uphill walking. It was a very nice day with Mother, W, and friends. Casual, mellow, why don’t we sit down and relax, kind of zoo experience. A lot of exhibits were closed for renovations and lots of active construction was going on. But if there was something to see I unbuckled W and pointed and gestured and tilted my head towards it and maybe 70% of the time he saw the animal.
I think I was looking for a bigger reaction out of him. Watching a cat bathe cracks him up so you would think that the small mammal exhibit would rock his world. But he was sort of, “meh” about things. Certainly more interested in people watching or trying to get N or V’s attention.
I guess the more he becomes aware the more he will enjoy it. I wish I could promise you amazing photos but taking pictures fell behind so that I could hold W. I’ll share what I have, but I am guessing you will be most impressed by W’s new hat trick that he has mastered.

that hat trick cracked me up!!! thanks for the smiles this morning…i needed them
your day sounds lovely, despite the lesser-than-expected reaction to the animals by W. being with friends i am sure was good for your heart and soul and out in the lovely day too…
xoxo
WOW!!!
i dont think i have ever been the first commenter here!
Awesome hat trick!
I think the zoo, for kids his age, is a good excuse to get out in the world and see different things. Maybe the animals, maybe not. But, I think if you keep taking him, he will eventually love the zoo far more than in a “this is a nice way to spend some time” way. More like “I wonder what my animal friends are doing today” connection.
Wow, love the animation! Very cool! Glad you had a great day!
Little kids just get more and more fun!
Cool hat trick. Z’s latest is walking around pulling her hat down, walking into something and then laughing hysterically.
As for trips out, I think they really start to enjoy it when they walk and are more verbal – doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do trips, but often I don’t think they “get” it until they can connect the dots a bit (i.e. the elephant is just like the picture of the elephant in my book!).
Peek-a-boo, W! You are very clever!
I always figure that babies think everything is so new and different that going to the zoo is not much more new and different than every day life. (Wait, that sounds like I think it isn’t worthwhile to go. No, I mean that it explains why they are kind of like “same thing as always!”)
I love that last “picture”! When we bring Miles to the zoo, he’s much more interested in people-watching. But he did stare at a monkey once.
Seriously, could W be any cuter?
OMG, that hat trick is too cute! Love it!
How pleased with himself does he look huh?!
Glad you had a nice relaxing day at the zoo….with added exercise as a bonus

super cute!
What a cute bug…. I’m glad you were able to enjoy the trip… I love going to the zoo.
I love the hat trick. You need to teach me how to do that!
Look at all his teeth! It makes me sad – he’s just getting too big!
Can I also add that he has the cutest paci clip I’ve ever seen. Wish I would have seen those when the twins were still using them.
We recently went to the Wild Animal Park and Egg was delighted. I bet W will enjoy it more next time!
