Why doesn’t pop up video happen in the real world?

by on December 7, 2009

Or does pop up video even happen at all anywhere now? Today the family (our gentle triumvirate) traveled to the nation’s capitol. Mother had a job interview and W and I wanted to get our photo ops. If you ever need to have someone take a picture of you the absolute BEST place to go is Washington DC. Every single time I pulled out my camera to take a photo a bajillion people were suddenly at my side offering to help capture the kodak moment. Two people even began their offer with the seldom heard, “It’s ok, I’m a professional…”

So in between working my mojo with self portraits (being tall with long arms does have its advantages when it comes to taking your own photograph) and in between dodging the almost annoyingly helpful crowd of eager to help photographers I was people watching. Back when we had cable I watched insane amounts of CNN. Like I could tell you when Wolf Blitzer had had his beard trimmed. I also watched a good bit of C-SPAN and ingested as much political satirical news as I could.

All this is to say is that I wanted to SEE some effing political people!!! But, sadly, every white guy in a black coat looks pretty much like the next one. And every time I was sure I had spotted a congressperson they would open their mouths and speak Russian. I really just wanted some sort of pop up guide. But it didn’t happen.

And seriously, do they do pop up videos anymore?? Someone get on that!

Oh and you know what is kind of annoying, but not really, but just enough that it sort of brings on a pout? Coming back after a long ass day walking around and sight seeing in DC and uploading your photos and realizing that in ALL of them your hair is some kind of crazy wonky. I mean I can’t even figured out how this random chunk of hair escaped from my daily hair jail of a chignon. I am guessing it happened when the sun suddenly went away and I put my sunglasses on my head and then the sun came out and I yanked the glasses from my head (thus dislodging the aforementioned hair chunk) and then when the sun went hiding again back went the glasses on top of my head. Got that? It doesn’t really matter. The point is 300 people offered to take my photo today and not ONE person said something helpful like, “Lady, fix your hair.”

And now some photos, funky hair fly-aways and all…

I think they still rerun the old school pop up videos on VH1 Classic occasionally. I loved pop up video.

I also love W’s hat. Too cute!

ERGO!! Register for it if you can. It is so easy and oh so comfy. Congrats to you.

Plaid coat is from One Stop Plus (just let me know when you wear it so we don’t show up to the same party…)

I also love popup video. And it would be helpful in certain places. Nice pictures – but if you carried W around the whole mall, you’ve got a much stronger back than I do!

You’ll do better for politicos down by the capital. *g* Around the white house, it’s mostly tourists. And park police.

If you hadn’t said anything, I would have thought that you were trying to do something cool and trendy with your hair. Everyone else always looks cool and trendy, I always look messy.

Washington, DC with a pop-up video feature would be AWESOME! And, your hair doesn’t look bad at all (and if it drives you that crazy, photo editing works wonders). W is adorable.

I tried to do a photo edit and it didn’t feel right. I had some sort of crazy phantom hair pains…heh

So cool!! I think you look lovely in all your red. :) Ride the metro in the AM or PM during regular commute times right around L’Enfant Plaza, The Smithsonian etc. (Orange line is a good one). You will see definitely political types. They will have badges on. But it’s considered pretty impolite to stare at them, so you’ll have to be very discreet. ;-)
