And sometimes when you toss out giant wishes into the universe they come true

by on November 3, 2009

This is going to be a hard post to write- and not for any sort of obvious reasons. It is going to be hard because one of the players involved has asked me not to make her out to be some kind of saint. Which is sort of like asking me to talk without using my hands. Since I can’t call her a saint I guess I will just have to settle on hero, superstar, paladin (go ahead, give me a quarter for using that word). She is a granter of unspoken wishes, an instant friend and apparently has great hair. (Mel says so, so it must be true!)

And because of her and her family my family now has a place to stay for a couple of months not too far from DC when we move in a few weeks. I mean seriously. SERIOUSLY. I can’t even fully get my head around the enormous generosity and kindness. Thank you, Paz, from the bottom of my heart.

(taking a break to grab another kleenex)

I also have to thank all of you guys that have been e-mailing me advice and input about this move. You guys are breathtaking in your awesome. I don’t even know if I can list all of the ways that people have offered to help us make this transition: offering thoughts about certain neighborhoods to getting wives and partners and husbands involved in everything from job thoughts to rental units. I don’t know how I can ever thank ya’ll enough. As soon as I able paying it forward will be my full time job.

Holy shit!! It’s really happening! And the fact that “all” we have to do now is downsize our stuff and get it into storage and just move is such a relief. It’s as if someone has given me oxygen and I can catch my breath. I am beyond lucky, beyond thankful. And in a few weeks I will be clad in sweaters and shod in plaid boots.

Here is W trying out a sweater in his new plaid W onesie from Jen:

DUDE! Wow. I am speechless over all the ways in which this community pulls together and MAKES THINGS HAPPEN! Seriously – if we were running the government, we’d be out of war, have no US debt, health care for all (including infertility coverage, of course), and there would be free drinks for everyone on Friday nights.

(((LOVES YOU AND WHOEVER IS HELPING CALI!!!)))

I swear, Paz is the most stylish person I know, with great hair, great taste in cupcakes, the patience of a saint when it comes to standing in Apple Stores for long periods of time or having the twins decide that they want to eat off of her plate. And she has an enormous heart. And she’s fun. A great all-around person to know.

I had a little cry about your good luck, and I wished everything good for Paz and her family. You will need some winter clothes and so will W. (and presumably your mother) but clothes will maybe come to you in some magical way also. If you end up in “my” county, let me know.

Hey Cali.,

That is awesome!!! I can not tell you how happy that i am to hear this. I feel the same way about my journey, as a single mom, it is such a leap of faith, and i am not very religious, but it is hard not to be when so many angels constantly seem to be showing up in my life, under the guise of friends to constantly help me ! I am a worrier, and it has been such a lesson, to learn to try and surrender it all to the universe and trust that everything usually will work itself out, and that my daughter and i will somehow always be ok! and so will you and W, with amazing friends like this!!!

I’ve heard it said that angels come in many different shapes and sizes. It always seems to ring true when it’s really needed. I’m so glad that things are falling into place for all of you and hope things continue to do so. Hugs to you.

Geez. Feelin all kinds of proud of our amazing community with these continued offers of help and kinda embarrassed at being in the spotlight all at the same time. It is simply the best feeling, and rewarding in of itself, to be able to help.

Oh the irony, we all know that the woman with hair that is nothing short of other-worldly is Mel herself. You’ve all seen her photos, you know I am callin’ it as it is.
