Internet searches I have performed this morning:

1)  “how to relocate when you don’t have a job”

2) “what do you put on your resume when you are relocating”

3) “short term lease Baltimore”

4) “short term lease Washington DC”

5) “butternut squash recipes”

6) “where can I donate clothes Jacksonville”

7) “day light savings has screwed up my sleep training”

8 ) “legal staffing agencies”

Also, a rant: To the stupid teenagers that live in my neighborhood- you suck. Thanks to your firecracker party I did not get much sleep. Don’t you know I am trying to teach someone how to fucking sleep on a schedule over here?? And if you are going to trick or treat and be a grown up- at least put on a costume or something. Super red lipstick does not count. You are lucky I am sleep deprived or you would not have gotten a baby ruth from me otherwise.

And can I also be a giant dork and confess that reading my horoscope for November ala Sue bummed me out.

I guess I am officially grumpy today.

Lack of sleep will do that. I get grumpy too. Hope you maybe get a nap today.

Grown ups trying to get candy? Ridiculous – unless of course they have a small child with them that is scared to go up there. I hope you have a more restful night tonight, I know that I didn’t sleep worth a crap either.

Can you talk about the sleep training? Sleep is an issue over here and I’m researching options

Don’t know if this is going to help or not, but I saw legal staffing agencies on your list. I worked with Kelly Legal Services several times in my career when I was floundering – mostly long term temp jobs – 3 months to 18 months. Not great pay – $30 to $40 and hour and really boring work, but it paid the bills. And gave me health insurance and kept me going until I figured out my next move. There was always work available. I know they do attorneys, non-admitted JDs and paralegals. That was in north jersey and NYC.

    Good luck.

One way to rent when you don’t have a job – pay in advance. If you have savings that’s probably the way to go. Of course, who has savings like that?

Hmmm yeah I have to say my horoscope for October was all sunshine and roses… can’t say much of that materialized. Oh well. So maybe it will be the opposite for you — a bad horoscope means that good things will happen?

A job that gives you board in exchange for doing a certain job like that of a onsite super or apt complex manager.

Have you considered the Hampton Roads area? I don’t think our unemployment is as bad as other areas in the state and we have a lot less snow!

  9. just wanted to chime in and wish you and your mom the best with the move!

Daylight savings messed us up here too. Elizabeth started yelling at what was supposed to be bedtime, but wasn’t.

I live in the DC/Baltimore area infact right in the middle of both. I’ll keep my eyes open and if I see anything I’ll send it your way. I would imagine right now as a starter Baltimore would be more manageable money wise. Good Luck! I love the area!!!

I live in this area. I have lived here for 10 years. Can you see my e-mail? E-mail me about housing and areas. I have lived in DC, Baltimore and tons of suburbs. I am no help on jobs as my wife has been unemployed for awhile. But I know housing!

If your mom is thinking about temp work (i.e., document review) there’s not much of that in Baltimore, more in DC. She won’t want to have to commute too far if she is staffed on a project that has hellish hours. Pay for those type projects was around $30 an hour last I knew, but since then there have been some big firm layoffs which may have driven down the price. It’s worth checking into whether or not your mom needs to be admitted in DC before doing this – I recall that you didn’t have to be but then there was a change and maybe you did. The DC Bar could probably tell you for sure, as could one of the temp agencies. LegalSource, Kelly, and LexSolution are a couple of the ones around here.

I am no help at all on the DC area, but will happily rant with you on Daylight Savings Time and the impact on sleep. Mine and everyone else’s in my household, including the dog.

As far as the resume question, I think you would address the relocation in your cover letter, as opposed to the resume itself.

I left you this link before, but she just posted some good squash recipes with more to come.
