Before diving into a simple post of weekend photos I want to say that I am really appreciating all of the thoughtful comments posted and stories e-mailed regarding the contact/don’t contact question I raised regarding my sister. Sending a note is not an option as I do not have her address, just a baby registry with an address hidden. I also feel like I should disclose more about the complicated nature of this relationship but I will come back to that later this week when I am not enduring a day of sleep deprivation and lack of caffeine.
So. Our weekend. Saturday was just a haze of W crying and me clock watching to see when I could give the next dose of tylenol or teething tablet. Alternative methods of, “Please stop crying/hurting/let go and nap” included hourly visits with the baby that lives in the bathroom mirror. Splashing of feet in the bathroom sink. Hours of knee bouncing and rocking and nursing and repeat.
Does anyone else find themselves saying super smart things like, “will you hold the baby while I go change him?”
Also. We are having some poop issues. (skip down to the paragraph with a red asterik now if poop talk is not your thing.) Teething didn’t really change the number of poops W creates- he is consistently been a baby that poops, on average, three times a day. Teething, if anything, made his poo a different, er, texture. But it was still liquid and still prevented me from ever being able to think of butternut squash soup again.
But then he went almost 3 days without poo. Yesterday, right before we were leaving the house (woo!) W gave a serious grunt and when I checked his pants things were almost solid. Like a firm pudding. Same color. Just not liquid. So is this teething or could it be because of the nasty liquid vitamins he started 11 days ago?
*/ Poop talk
Yesterday we all went to visit GM. Except she was already in bed and firmly in a nap and would not stir. She grunted in her sleep and didn’t even react when W began to sing to her. I kept waiting for her to pop her eyes open and show delight, but she was in some dimension of sleep that we could not rouse her from. Of course I felt guilty for delaying our visit because of a marathon nursing session but a floor attendant said that she had been napping for most of the day like that.
What really sucked was that after days, and days of W being in so much pain and wearing his Captain Adorable inside out he was finally in full on darling mode. Cooing, singing, laughing, delightful. And I didn’t get to share that with her. I took some photos but most are almost too hard too look at now.
The good news is that W & I were able to meet with Sarah yesterday afternoon as she drove towards her vacation destination. So W’s shining star of a Sunday personality went forth and conquered. I have actually never heard W laugh so much and exude so much merriment. And it was just all kinds of wonderful to see Sarah again and have her meet W.
When we came home W and I were knocked down by the amazing smells of yummy good cooking. While we were out Mother had whipped up tomato pie and an amazing cooked brie dish. Yes. You are jealous.
And for your final photo of the day, here is W doing his best dumb Donald but not quite pulling it off. Clearly because he is neither dumb, nor Donald. But hey, hey, hey…

Teething with my girls ends up with a horrible liquidy diarrhea like nastiness. Also they get horrible diaper rash on top of it and their eczema flares up. So I’d say the vitamins may be the cause of the poo pudding.
That grossness out of the way, tomato pie sounds wonderful!
It could be just a variation of normal for him too. Elizabeth occasionally just goes longer between poops and then things are more compact.
Elizabeth heard about W’s teeth and decided to (FINALLY) get some of her own.
Is it the nasty vitamins with iron in it? If yes, I’d say that is the culprit. Teething, at least with Erik, was always loose bowels.
He is getting cuter and cuter every day! I just want to tickle him all over!
I was sort of wondering why everyone kept telling you just to send a note when you said you found an online baby registery. I thought I was missing something. Most of those registeries keep the address hidden, I think.
I don’t know what you should do. I have a half-sister that I never met. She is much older than me and lives in my hometown. When I was in college her husband died in a freak accident and my mom sent a condolance card, along with our contact information but she never responded. I don’t know how I feel about the knowledge of having a half-sister that I don’t even know. It is pretty neutral for me. My sister, on the other hand, has cooked up all kinds of schemes to meet this girl. The last scheme, which thankfully her husband talked her out of, was to go over to her house with a mutual friend and just announce that they were sisters. I can’t believe the mutual friend thought this was a good idea. It does seem like a good in, but not quite like that.
I’m with Elizabeth. Iron will plug anyone up. Try pear juice.
W is showing so much personality! So cute!
Ah, tomato pie!I just saw a Paula Deen show where she made green tomato pie and it looked fabulous.
i would definitely attribute the poop issue to the liquid vitamins. can you cut to every other day dosage? it can’t hurt, right, and it’s better than skipping them altogether, no?
Can he BE any cuter? OMG.
And dude, seriously, are you going to post ONE of those recipes but not the other? The BRIE one? Because I love me some brie…please share!
xoxo
I really cannot remember if teething changed my girls’ poo consistency or color. It has been a little while for me. I do have to say that both of my girls teethed really easily, you really wouldn’t have known except for the drool. I’m not trying to brag or make you feel bad, just stating the facts. Anyway….
I’m so sorry that GM couldn’t enjoy W in his adorable mode today. Hopefully next time you visit will be much better.
And yay to mom making delicious food while you were out. Sometimes I really miss living with my mother!
PRUNES DAILY! Helped my girl get regular again. Seriously. They ROCK!
ohh myy…he is a flirty boy!!! i love that second pic with sarah…
Everything I would have said about poop has been said.
The pie sounds and looks yummy. Something I would eat, and maybe A. I may have to try it out.
I think W has a new little crush, he is all Mr. Smiley when with Sarah. Cute, cute, cute!
The poop issues are definitely attributable to the nasty vitamins.
I absolutely LOVE that first pic of W with Sarah. What a wonderful, engaging picture.
Tell your mom she is always welcome in my house, heck, you and W can come too. Just bring tomato pie!
It is probably the vitamins because the extra drool always causes Wyatt to have more liquidy poo. I don’t BF so I can’t say anything about BF poo consistency but I know that “pudding poo” as I call is is actually a good consistency. Unless it is hard and pebble like you shouldn’t have to do anything extra to help him go like juice or fruit;;;
Regarding the poop: My pediatrician told me that right around 4 or 5 months if a baby is exclusively breast fed they will go from several poops a day to sometimes a few days without any at all. It is apparently because at this point their system changes and if they are exclusively breast fed their body is now able to physically take almost ALL of the breast milk “stuff” and leaves very little left for waste. He warned me of it because at my daughter’s two month appointment I checked to make sure it was normal that she was pooping like 6 times a day. He was like, “Don’t be worried when she goes from this to nothing at all for a couple of days if you continue to breast feed…” So it sounds like that is exactly what is happening in the poop department.
No clue on the poop – I never gave my kids the vitamins, although when I used formula it always had to be the low iron type because otherwise they would have rock hard poop. Love the photos – especially the flirting with Sarah shots. And tomato pie – seriously? If I had a/c I would totally be trying that recipe (but no way I’m turning on the oven right now.) I totally hate mayo, but I’m guessing you don’t really taste the mayo in the recipe though, right?
omg, the tomato pie.
just got a bag of tomatoes from a friend of madre’s and i am going to make this this weekend, i think…ohhh yummm. (after, of course, i have a few tomato sammiches. mmmmmmm)
Poor W and all his teething issues….I wish I could say I remember hem well, but it was sooo long ago! I am glad tho that it sounds like he is starting to feel some relief, now maybe you can get some sleep!
As for the tomato pie….SUPER YUM! I make one with he heirloom tomatoes from my garden and use pesto as a layer too…. it is soooo good. I looove you and hope W. continues on his charming little path of flirtitude!
I second the comment about vitamins being the culprit if they have iron in them. Iron is notorious for making people constipated. I guess its a necessary evil.
It’s the vitamins, too much iron. I personally don’t bother with them. Healthy breastfed babies don’t need vitamins IMO:)
My goodness you have a handsome little guy there. Those pics of him with Sarah are a knockout!
So sorry GM missed out on a nice visit with happy W. I am imagining the pain in your heart. I TRULY understand.
As far as the poop stuff, Mason was one of those baby’s that only pooped every 3 days or so anyway at that age – so I’ve not much to offer you up. I was worried initially that he was constipated, but found out that 3 or even 5 days (if my dreadful memory serves me), was okay, that constipation was more about the consistency of the nasty stuff, rather than the regularity. I do think though the vitamins, in particular the iron (as others have said) may have something to do with W’s recent change in bowel habits. We don’t “do” vitamins for babies and not much for kids either, here in Australia. Although I personally have been wondering if Mason could benefit from some as his eating has gotten very picky recently…
My goodness can he get any cuter?! Even having just read about poop coming outta that kid I just want to hang out with him.
I’m sorry about your visit with GM. That is so hard I know.
ahhhh tomato pie! I was just thinking about making that the other day and I couldn’t find the recipe! That recipe you posted is not your recipe! Yours has ricotta cheese…I’m positive. Where’s the Cali recipe?!
When my son was exclusively BF (which was for 6 months) he would only poop once every 6-8 days. My dr assured me it was totally normal for a BF baby and only to worry if it was more than 12 days. I never understood why people complained about dirty diapers, esp because my son’s were rarely full. And then, when he got older, and started eating food, it changed to be more frequent, but also more of what we called the “peel and stick” type. I don’t think the term needs any more explanation…
Ahhh poop tales. And btw, W could not be any cuter if he tried. What a beautiful and animated little boy he is!
Hey! I’m finally home and back on a real computer so I can comment. Cute pics! They don’t really do justice to the yumminess that is Mr. W. but it was lovely to finally meet him. And of course to see you again!
