Jane Fonda baby

So. Quick question. What is up with W wanting to do crunches? I can’t get him to do tummy time for more than a few minutes a day, but the guy is hoisting himself up from his back several times a day. Yes. He is basically sitting himself up from his back. What the hell? I have quit asking myself what is normal or not normal…but really. What milestone is he working on?

I have read that babies don’t need to crawl in order to walk… they just need to sit. So W might be on to something with the sitting. Our D does pretty well on his tummy (except for the screaming when he cant’ get anywhere) but he’s not much in the sitting up department.

TOTALLY!! cooper is doing the same thing and it is soooo annoying! mostly because she does it while she’s eating and trying to hit a moving target is not easy.

W is clearly so brilliant he is skipping boring stages like tummy time and going right for the good stuff!

I’ve never actually seen a baby do this. Neither of mine had any interest in crunches. Something they clearly inherited from me.
;)
Put me into the amazed column.

Wow! He just wants to sit up and take notice of things! I say go with it! If that’s the milestone he’s decided to work on first, go with it! With those big eyes, he just wants to be all up in your biz, lol!

Oh yeah…I forgot to say that he figures if he manages to get to a semi sitting position he can go after those yummy cookies of yours.

mine (a couple of weeks younger than yours) is doing the same thing! Wasn’t familiar with that either, since her older sister didn’t do that. (Older sister also never crawled, but spent about 9 mos. scooting on her bum and then walked.) Also, this baby has from Day One been working on lifting her head and neck when held upright on a shoulder. As far as I’m concerned that’s exactly what tummy time is designed to encourage in the early weeks, so I didn’t bother with tummy time until now. (At a later age, I believe its purpose is to encourage baby to use her arms to lift herself up.)

Olivia does that too! Although, she doesn’t really sit up. It started right before she rolled back to belly…is he doing that yet? She kind of crunches up into a ball, and when she flings her legs back out, she rolls over.

She’s a weirdo. (Like her mama.)

Baby B refused to do *anything* before she figured out how to talk. She used to get so beyond crazy trying to utter noises we were all a little worried she wouldn’t develop in any other way. She did everything, eventually, like rolling, crawling, walking, but she has always fixated on her vocal capabilities. I think in her head, now that she can SCREAM WITH DISPLEASURE and utter noises that people respond to, she’s “talking” to us. Pfft, babies. Don’t they know people wrote books on how they’re supposed to do things!? HOW RUDE!

Ha – B totally does this too. Not necessarily from flat on the floor but if we have him propped on our bed or in the boppy he’s trying to sit up. It cracks me up. He also does it while he’s strapped in his car seat. I’ll look back in the mirror and he’s all trying to pull himself out of his seat. Nerdy boys! :)

Earl did this and it was hilarious! If we held his legs down for him he could crunch himself into a sit position from his back. Funniest thing I ever saw.

Boo did a version of this. T would put him on his back on a blanket, and let Boo grab her fingers. Then he’d try to pull up his torso towards her so he could try to sit.

Not to say he didn’t do tummy time, too. He was doing some rolling before he moved.

our babe does this. she is doing core training to get her back and abs strong enough to sit up. which she is not doing successfully for like 5-10 seconds at a time.

My son Milo was born 3/24 and has been doing this about 3 weeks now. Some of my nieces & nephews have done this, I was just surprised he started so soon! And he can really pull himself up 2-3 inches! Hilarious!
