Monday’s Miscellany

All of a sudden there are these little random things that I want to jot down over here and I figured I had better purge them out before they make my butt look fat.

Our fourth was nice and mild. We went to visit GM and were thrilled to see that the lasix is working very well in reducing her edema. She was noticeably less bloated and looked much more like herself. phew. We were able to visit with her back in her room and W was mostly well behaved. Thank goodness. W could scream and shriek and GM would still coo at him and remark at how wonderful he is.

And he is. The boy is 3 months old today. 13 weeks on the planet. To celebrate I have given him his own page on the blog. If you look up you can now see a tab that says “W Weeks” and each week I will add a new photo. Because, really, the kid needs to be photographed more. ha.

I am happy with today’s photo as you can really start to see that we have the same eyes- which to me are the eyes I got from my Grandfather. And since I can’t walk around looking at my own eyes I can now look at W’s and see the eyes of a man that I miss so very much.

Things in the mother ‘hood have been going ok. Mostly I just try to follow his lead and thank the heavens that he loves communicating. He is quite chatty these days and in the early morning sounds a bit like Dame Edna. Atta boy. (I was *this* close to posting a video of him talking…)

W is totally going through a milk tick phase. Usually he will nurse 15-20 minutes per side and be sated and happy. For the past four days he has nursed 25-35 minutes a side and then an hour later wanted to nurse again. Some days I get kind of exhausted being the dairy farm.

He hates wet pants more than anything on the planet but lawd does he love to have naked time. Naked time is this small window of bliss where he squirms around on the changing table while I use my free hand to put his dirty dipe in the bin and grab a clean one to put inside the cover.

Speaking of diapers and such, I have loved using cloth. So much. Mostly we rawk the pre-folds inside a cover but I have been investigating what we will do next. At some point I will have to go up sizes in both prefolds and the covers so I have been thinking about one size diapers. It seems like every day for the last month, if I had free time on the computer I was using it to research diapers.

I have now landed in my decision and am pretty excited about it. Basically I wanted a one size diaper (one that he can use up to potty training), that would not require prefold, and would have snap closures as opposed to velcro. Thanks to a gift from one of my Alisons (oh yes, I have two!) I have settled on bum genius organic. I think I will also get a couple BG pockets for night time use.

The really exciting thing is that I had made up my mind that I would use every payment from one of my custom headers to stock up on dipes. So one header=one diaper. I was able to order several diapers this weekend. Woo to the hoo!

Mother has only heard from a handful of places that she sent all those bajillion resumes to. And all responses were of the, “good luck, we aren’t hiring” genre. And yet we still keep chanting, “this will be the month!!!” Something cool that Mother just recently was able to find out is the definitive list of states where she can practice as in-house counsel. All but one of our dream states is on the list (what the eff, NY?) so it has allowed us to extend the search to more places.

It has to happen, right? And if you hook ups in the job hiring world let me know if you want her resume. for reals.
