Three fantastic things arrived in the mail this morning.
1. WW has a social security card, and because I am a date dork I was thrilled to see that it was issued on April 23rd
2. WW & I have been “released” from the paternity offices of the state of Florida. Paternity is now officially unknown.
3. The sperm bank sent us this super swank, fancy, legal & notarized document basically declaring me as WW’s parent.
Having to go through all of these extra leaps was a bit disturbing. As a single person wanting motherhood so completely I expected some of the setbacks. You expect to need sperm from a donor and you expect that at some point medical intervention will be involved. And you expect (hope) that your friends and family will fill any voids that arise.
But having to spend hours and hours in a depressing waiting room just to listen to a snide and unkind man tell me that I need to produce paperwork to claim my son as 100% mine was brutal. Of course I understand that it was a necessary step in order for WW to receive insurance. I think it is the unkindness that did me in. Good news is that it is done. The proof is in the paper.
In single women/sperm donor/ main stream media news: anyone watch the tv series, Bones? Next week it looks like it will feature a story line within the single mother theme.
In WW stuff: When he nurses he has started to tug on his ear ala Carol Burnett. When he startles he flails his arms out wide as if he is suddenly remembering that he is in the middle of conducting a symphony.

Congratulations on getting all the paper work!
When my kids nursed, all 3 of them pulled off a skin tag that I have on my neck.
i’m sorry for the bias in the system and the unkind jerk … but so glad you have the paper you need. yay! and i love the new header. xo
I love that you always knew that something was going to happen on April 23rd.
Um…..more pictures, please???
yay for the fantastic stuff. Sorry about the dick giving you a hard time about the paternity stuff.
Congrats on all the paperwork and I personally think that April 23rd is a wonderful day. It is Bella’s birthday!

Glad to hear that unpleasant chapter is over. Just wanted to say that “conductor” move that WW has going on is called the Moro Reflex, and it’s a normal reflex for infants when they have a momentary feeling of falling or have a little startle. It’s a good thing. Also the Carol Burnett ear tug sounds adorable!
I am so glad that you’ve gotten this squared away, despite having to deal with an insensitive jerk.
The ear tugging sounds adorable.
Love the conducting symphony comment, Steve & I used to crack up every time and say the same thing….then we decided he was trying to be a monster, so we would growl when he did it.
