Happy Commercialized Romance Day

I haven’t had a good & proper Valentine in years, but I have had this blog and you guys. Since I am feeling mushy this year I will just come right out & say it: I love you. I may not have my strapping, liberal, and hunky lumberjack but I can appreciate that I still have the desire to one day find him (or be found by him).

I am much more calm in my singlehood these days. That is actually really nice- to not be in a panic.  I have always had this sort of unique notion that I will find my love later in life. I will be so comfortable and happy in my own skin that I won’t even own a pair of spanx. I won’t ever feel the need to apologize for who I am or the choices I have made. I will be seen and appreciated and respected and accepted.

But I sure do miss twinkling…

It’s funny you mention this because I have noticed each year that things like Valentine’s Day get easier. I feel less awful about being single to the point this year where I really feel like it’s no big deal and who cares. I didn’t spend a week or two dreading today. I don’t know what I think will be in my future. Whether there will be a man or not but I’m feeling better about my life on my own if not about myself completely.

I know I’m looking forward to having a kiss that doesn’t begin with Kay’s. I swear these ads get more and more annoying every year! Sending some VDay love your way Cali!

I love you too!

One year in college, one of my nun teachers said that she never got Valentines because God didn’t send flowers. So my roommate and I went out and bought her a rose. We were sticking it to her door when she caught us. Then she called us two hours later when she remembered that she had said that and figured out why we were trying to be anonymous.

Happy VDay Callie, I remember those single VDays! After getting over the being single issue, I had so much more fun hanging with my girlfriends than ANY date. Sometimes it just seems to be such a forced thing (and definately not romantic)!!!

I also remember when I reached that point of “calmness” over being single (why does it always seem that I reach that point then find someone??). What a GREAT feeling! Glad you have gotten there! You and your family have been in my thoughts over the past couple of days! I know all will work out in some way or shape!

Happy Valentine’s Day (belated), Cali. You are deeply loved. And I really appreciate your image of being so confident in one’s one skin. May we all have that, and sooner rather than later. Big chocolate smooch.
