On the issue of Thomas Beatie, the Pregnant Man: Just so you know, I have zero issues with Thomas or his family. In fact I think anyone in the trans community is hugely brave and amazing. That he was able to create his family is great and being a part of the alternative reproduction community I stand up and clap that he and his wife were able to achieve parenthood. The only comment I have is that I am jealous at how effing fertile he is. This has nothing to do with him but everything to do with the green eyed monster that hangs out with me. I am also jealous of the Komodo dragon that was able to impregnate herself. Also getting my jealousy: people that have sex and get pregnant.

But ya’ll knew that, right?

Also, for the record, the combination of a fiber pop-tart, chicken noodle soup, carrots and dip, cheese and crackers, and leftover pizza make for KILLER, get no sleep, heartburn filled night. Think me and zantac are going to be good friends from now on. (And no- I didn’t eat all that in one sitting- that was my food intake for all of Tuesday. Sadly I think the pizza is what has to go.) Last night as I rolled around in pain I kept imagining all that food as some sort of crazy 7 layer dip. ew.

Leaving in an hour to take GM to see the surgical oncologist to check on her arm. Today is the first day since last thursday that GM has been functioning enough to even let me get her dressed. These past couple of days have been brutal. Hopefully this will be a quick check up and we can get home swiftly and with great calm. It is also very, very cold out there and while one of us is elated (that would be ME raising her hand) the other one of us (ahem, GM) does not do well with cold at all. Wish I could plug in an electric blanket in the car for her.

Oh- and thanks for the netflix suggestions. Please don’t judge, but we just got Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and I am so so excited! Those of you that have seen Wall-E do you think GM would like it? She loved Monsters, Inc and Finding Nemo, but will she be able to relate to a robot? I think Kung-Fu Panda will be, wait for it, too violent for her. GM can’t stand to see someone hit at all so something tells me that kung-fu in any incarnation will not go over well.

And look at my sidebar over on your left. See that ad for Black Sheep Baby? This is a compnay that is run by a new friend (who is also a friend of a long time friend). They have so many cute, cute things for babies and kids. Unique designs, beautifully made. And, as noted on the website, “Our garments are 100% cotton, made in LA by American Apparel and printed in Minneapolis by Arthouse. Our BSB labels are now sewn by Project Regina, a local non-profit for immigrant women and we continue to give the proceeds from our BSB Logo clothes (and more) to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.” Check them out!

you know, it makes sense to me that he’s so fertile. I mean, my infertility is related to me having too much estrogen. estrogen is hard to get rid of, but you can always add more. Heck, even testosterone, if given in high a dose, can be turned into estrogen by the body.

I’m happy for him. I just wish I could be happy for me, too.

Uh, hello, have you put Mamma Mia on your netflix list?

Wall-E reminded me of another robot-ish movie – have you seen The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy? Probably so, but I *heart* it. :) Check it out if you haven’t. And if you’ve seen it, it’s always good to watch again just so you can be singing “so long and thanks for all the fish” for the next 2 weeks…

I think she could relate to the robot. But he looks very lost and alone in lots of the movie. I somehow think that could be deeply unsettling if you feel like that a lot yourself. It is a very visual lonesomeness…

I do think she might like cars. It has nice music too and you can totally relate to them…

I thought Wall-E was pretty cute. She might like it. Couldn’t hurt to try.

Also, I think you and I are due on the same day and I just found out that I’m also having a boy!

It seemed to be my bedtime hot chocolate that gives me the worst heartburn. I had to give it up. Even without it, I was up with you last night. :) I’ve got Tums and Pepcid AC, they work pretty well. Someone recommended apples to me for heartburn and they work pretty well too.

Don’t judge me either, but I checked Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants out of the library and took it on vacation last year. Not bad at all. The movie doesn’t look bad at all.

of the cgi variety, did gm (or you?) ever see hoodwinked? if not, definitely put it on the queue. it’s so very, very good. we own it, and the granny in the movie (voiced by none other than glenn close) is all about old woman empowerment.

Pizza gave me terrible heartburn. It was probably the tomatoes. It was very depressing.

I loved Sisterhood (I cried) and have put the sequel on our Netflix.

I think she would love Wall-E. I certainly did! Also, it has clips from Hello Dolly which she could relate to and is OH SO ADORABLE. I was thinking of suggesting it for your net flix and then you said something.

Also, if you want something really quirky, I love the Australian movie The Rage in Placid Lake. Not sure how much GM would follow– because it is quirky. But it is fun and not overly violent (except for one fall off a roof of the main character at the beguinning bt he survives).

You may want to look into one of these electric blankets that use the 12v connector in your car – http://www.roadtrucker.com/12-volt-heaters-blankets-sheets-1.htm or this http://www.electricblanket.net/p-16-comfy-cruise-electric-car-blanket.aspx. I

  11. You know, actually, you can plug an electric blanket in the car. You need a $30 inverter, sold in the electronics part of Target where it abuts up against auto supplies. You can also find them at K-Mart and Radio Shack. You plug the inverter into the cigarette lighter, and it’s a regular working outlet when the car is running.

    Any of these would work:

Thinking of you guys and wishing you well.

LOL if your heartburn is like mine it doesn’t matter what you eat… or don’t eat… I get heartburn like it’s my job. Nothing works except massive amounts of pepcid. Congrats on the cold weather, it’s so nice when you don’t get it very often.

Fil begged me to watch Sisterhood. I’ve already seen it twice and it is SUCH an awesome movie, she even got a little tear, which is saying a lot.

Wall-E is probably the cutest movie in the WHOLE world. I mean, I laughed, I got choked up, my cheeks hurt because I couldn’t stop smiling the whole damn time. I think GM would just enjoy the heck out of it.

Try Tinkerbell. I know, it sounds a bit goofy, but it was really sweet and had some good signing. I don’t know how GM feels about Disney, but I do know that my son loved it and he’s a hard nut to crack. ;)

I wouldn’t be embarrassed at all about the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. It’s a wonderful movie about girls and friendship. Aside from the whole pants bit, their stories are very real. I think you’ll like it.

  15. Sisterhood is a good movie. But the books–there are four of them–are AMAZING! I feel ashamed for saying so what with my swank top-five program MFA in Creative Writing; I wanted to die when I went to B and N to get the second two books and they directed me to the “teen fiction” section *blush* but it was soooo worth it.

i will be writing a post entitled ‘sisterhood of the travelling pants: a la nursing school” in a day or so… so i was giggling when i heard its on your netflix que.

sending you hugs. it was so cold and windy here today and i knew you would have been in your plaid-scarfed glory!!!

    xoxo,

I had sex and got pregnant. But! I am not having sex anymore if that makes a difference. In fact, I’d rather pay for my husband to have sex with someone else than have sex with him at this point. I have NO mojo. NONE. Yuck.

  18. honeywineNo Gravatar says:

They do have those car blankets that heat up. Might be a great Christmas gift.

Thank you for being amazing. Transphobia sucks (yes, I’m looking at all of you who put man in quotes), and you, C, are a kick ass ally.

  20. OliveNo Gravatar says:

I saw sisterhood in the theater. It wasn’t theater worthy but I’m an Alexis Ble.del fan from Gil.more Grrrlz. I wouldn’t be ashamed.

Thanks for taking on the transphobia. I hadn’t read the comments until I read this post, but some people were definitely out of line. I think it’s more ignorance than people coming from a truly hateful place, but without people calling them on it (you and others in the comments), no one will learn.

The pregnant man is fine with me; It’s a little odd but so is my husband’s refusal to wear clothing with any sort of insignia or brand name on it whatsoever. Do you know how difficult it is to find completely anonymous clothing in this day and age? It’s like the search for the Holy Grail, only less religious and with more swearing.
As for heartburn, acid reflux and that kind of malady, take a Tums (I think they’re okay for pregnant persons, but check to make sure) and if you can wait before lying down to sleep, do so. Sitting upright helps prevent the digestive acids from rolling back up your esophagus. If you MUST lie down, prop a pillow under your neck and shoulders. That should help.
Heartburn gets worse as pregnancy advances because the baby is pushing your stomach up into your chest cavity. Isn’t that fun!
