This coming Saturday I will be hosting a virtual baby shower on another site. The shower is for my friend Jennifer of Here We Go Again. Jennifer & I “met” almost a year ago when she jumped into, feet first, the internet fundraiser that helped me achieve the first part of my goal of Creating Motherhood. We literally didn’t know each other and yet she was so amazingly dedicated to helping me. It was inevitable that we would become friends.

That is one of the stunning things about blogging- sure it is mostly to fulfill personal needs of venting or sharing- but that so many of us end up connecting beyond the blog is a beautiful testimony of true friendship. (this is a theme that I will be blogging about more later this week. I will be sharing with you something that is the most amazing and breath-taking gift I have ever, ever received. Seriously. I can barely write about it now as it is so charged with beauty and love that it awes me silent. When you see it you will be inspired by the true friendship of the IVP.)

One of the things that Jennifer & I have in common, besides being complete freaks for Muppets, living in the same humid state, and a great love of tall men (she has one, I don’t), is that we both work at home in towns that are not original to us. When I read on her blog that she wasn’t planning on having a shower I totally got it. This is not to say that she was all, “dude! My life sucks! I am not having a baby shower!” Instead it was just a pragmatic fact and one that I completely understood the reality of.

But I realized that she didn’t necessarily need everyone to be together to have some crazy, game-filled, brunch. And really- even though I have never been to a baby shower- the way I have heard them described, they kind of sound annoying. I figured a virtual shower was the best option. People can stop by, leave a note and if baby showers aren’t their thing they can move on swiftly with minimal damage done. And if you felt like hanging around, well there could be virtual games to partake in. And what better way for all of us to connect with love and excitement for Jennifer!?

This is your official invitation to the shower. Stop by now and have a look around, but be sure to come back next Saturday for more fun. There might be a web cam involved (um, at least we talked about it. heh). If you have an idea for something we can add for Jennifer on the site please e-mail me at creatingmotherhood at mac period com.

That is such a wonderful idea! And so much fun. How creative and inspiring. I’m going to look around now and will see you back there on the day.

  2. Hey Cali:

Do you have an address for Jen? I’d like to send her a gift.

  3. What a truly lovely idea. Real baby showers suck! Had to go to one this weekend. Yech. Love you!

Matt has a tall brother. He’s got a girlfriend, but I am sure we can get rid of her. My father-in-law, a former Army Ranger guy, taught me how to hide a body. (It’s a lot of work though. Might be easier just to scare her off.)

You are awesome! Everyone is so nice! (Weeping at my computer desk.)
