Where do you get your morning news?

by on October 2, 2008

I’m on a bit of a quest to find something different to watch in the morning. For years I have been a loyal viewer of a certain station’s morning show, but lately it has just felt so incredibly sugar coated. I don’t mind a bit of fluff with my news, but I also want to make sure that there is plenty of news.

We are in a news era where a lot of shows simply put talking heads on and then they talk all over each other and I can’t figure out what the point is. I want direct, with a dash of human interest, and would it be too wrong to ask for a weather person that wasn’t loopy? (speaking of weather- I took the dog out this morning and nearly cried. It feels like the humidity is leaving! It might get below 80 today. Swoon.)

So what are you guys watching? Is it working for you? Or are you like me, watch a few minutes, turn it off, and then get your news when you log on line? And if you DO get it online- where are you getting it from? I feel like I read 10 different news sites.

Do you read old tweets or stick to current ones?

We wake up every morning to CNN’s Morning Express with Robin.

If I’m working out, I put on the Today Show. They were always my favorite, but so much fluff anymore. I just can’t stand it — I get my news online. Because it’s either complete fluff, or I just can’t deal with the sadness.

I watch about three minutes of Morning Joe on MSNBC. (Al watches it and I run out the door.)
Online I really only ever look at CNN.com for news, though I’ll glance at random political websites for punditry too.

None of the above. I tend to feel that the regular networks have too much fluff (used to watch the Today show for years, but now it just feels like Good Housekeeping translated to TV,) and in general watch Fox over CNN/MSNBC on cable, but damn, Fox & Friends just is painful. Can’t watch that crap pile for long/at all. So…nothing.

I read CBC online. I will no longer get my news of the US from US news sites for the most part. I sometimes read Huffington Post pr NPR news but mainly it is CBC news because I want more reliable news.

When I watch the news, I watch Fox News. But usually I forget to turn the TV on. I read the Fox News website everyday though.

I can’t stomach TV news. I just can’t. Like you said, the sugar… it gets to me. I am an NPR junkie and would listen all 4 hours of Morning Edition every day if I could.

I listen to the Today show while I check my email, and then I flip it to FREE SPEECH TV to watch GRIT TV in the mornings. I really enjoy the extreme, hard- hitting, in depth coverage that favors no one (which may not be entirely true – they do focus on independants and Green Party candidates quite a bit, but damn! Someone should!). They were the only station that had in depth coverage of the protests at the Democratic and Republican Conventions, and the only coverage of the unneccessary arrests made of journalists and filmmakers at the Rep. convention. And then in the evenings I listen to NPR while I clean the kitchen and make dinner. I hate local news and I hate corporate news (CNN, NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS) even more… it’s just all grossly sugar coated and celebrity centered. I don’t care what Britney Spears does. That isn’t news.

I’ve stopped the morning tv news almost altogether – and I get my dose of news from National Public Radio’s morning edition in the car every day on my way to the train station. Highly recommended. Balanced, entertaining and always informative.

MSNBC’s Squawk Box. Great economy news. I feel like I am smarter since I started watching it. I def. know more about the economy!

NPR all the way. I have this problem where I don’t know what world leaders or big US figures look like because I listen to all my news. This was especially problematic before the primaries when there were a million presidential candidates. I could hardly pick out any of them!

I’m at work by 7am – no time (or inclination) to watch morning news shows. I do listen to the news on the radio on my way to work, and then read the news via Internet periodically throughout the day.

I get my morning news from a combination of NPR, cnn.com, nytimes.com and the BBC news online. Can’t stand the morning TV news shows.

for me, its all about the print media. I relish and devour my morning paper…. Besides in the morning, my TV is usually being held hostage by Dora or someone equally loud and obnoxious…
