The Prequel to the Sequel
I have one thing to say and then I want to have a conversation with you guys. Here is the statement: I am currently celebrating the (quiet) start of my period. Which, while not a cartwheel moment, it IS something that has to happen in order to get TO the cartwheel moment. That moment would be my next period. That cycle will be the beginning of THE cycle. You know the one you guys have been helping me save up towards for five+ months. Yes. THAT cycle. The FET cycle. The sequel to the almost perfect IVF (that bled away…).
And because I am going to be an obnoxious good girl (& by good I mean try to off-set any health issues that my fat ass might be bringing to the party by abstaining from caffeine and booze) this will be the last week that I will partake of the yumminess that is red wine and enjoy the alertness that is my morning coffee/s.
Since this is a new page in this chapter I decided to unveil a new look on the blog. (if you are reading me in a blog reader you are totally not getting the full effect…just saying) If you notice any glitches please raise your hand and speak up. And yes, that is what my kitty looks like. Cute as hell, right?!
Now- on to the conversation. As I have been clicking and reading along being a nacomleavmo gal I have noticed all KINDS of blogs out there that deal with the same subject differently. That subject would be talking about a cycle vs. not talking about it. There are blogs that give you the juicy facts from every angle and then there are the ones that simply say things like, “went to the RE” and then move on to talking about other stuff.
Personally I am an over-sharer. Way too much sharing. But I wonder if that is a turn off. Would you rather read ALL the details, a few choice details, or a vague shrug of the details? (sorry. NO details is not an option.)
Now don’t get me wrong, as far as blogging a cycle I expect this one to be super boring for most of you. (if you want excitement may I direct you to the Hep C scare cycle of October ‘07) I mean there will only be four ultrasounds total from start of period to transfer of the embryos day. But really I ask this for those that are going through shit times. I have been there so don’t lie. Is it going to be annoying as hell to have to read stuff? Should I put things at the end of posts? or do one of those post breaks so that if you are reading on a reader program that you don’t have to see something you are not in the mindset to see?
Just something I am thinking about. Now excuse me while I go to the store to buy a vat of wine.

Got something to say?

Fuck no, don’t leave out a single thing, PLEAAAAASE Calliope. The lurid details are what we want. The more, the better.
Is this not the most anticipated FET in the history of the interwebs?
Don’t leave anything out. If you’re willing to share your experiences, there may be someone out there who needs to hear it. Plus I’m nosy! =D
I love the new look! That font, oy…I ADORE it.
I say give as much detail as you can regarding your cycle. This is a community of support, and it’s also a source of information for a lot of women. Plus, of course, we love you and want to hear every teeny, tiny bit of information you can provide. Ok, that might sound a bit weird. Oh well.
Love the new look!
I think in your case, all the details are warranted and we want to know. With a treated cycle like this, we have been there, can help interpret scans, measurements, et cetera.
I will say that on blogs where they give every detail of their cervical mucus and OPK results for 6 days straight? Not necessary. Not that it bothers me, but it’s just sort of a play by play. Or maybe I’m just bitter because it’s all foreign to me.
Best of luck!
You are a great writer and I think sharing it all is always the way to go. I am trying to come “out from under the shell” on my blog. Always thinking that someome from work was reading it always held me back….but I have tried to not worry about it anymore”

You have a fantastic way with expressing your feelings and I as the reader can experience it the way you write it.
Bring it.
You know I want it.
I think I originally found you by googling something absurd related to a cycle and it is the details that are so helpful in realizing that every single cycle is different for every single person.
For sure people come here because you are so honest and real.
Do not change a thing.
And mazel tov on the arrival of the period before the period.
I personally like the details. It helps to see what someone else is doing.
Dish it, Girlfriend!
The details aren’t just good story material, they actually help people learn about the process.
LOVE the new layout. Ab fab.
Ooo sweet new header=) Keep the conversation flowin–Im always interested in details!
Virtual Cheers to you & your big ol’ box-o-wine!
I’d say you share just exactly how much YOU WANT TO share with this coming cycle. If you’re concerned about your readership, perhaps a title that announces when you are “over-sharing” cycling stuff?
I wouldn’t worry about it, but that’s just me.
What? There’s oversharing? As far as I’m concerned, there is no TMI with IVF.
*speaking my mind*…(love the new look of the blog!!!)
i think you should write about this upcoming cycle, and honestly about ALL you want to share, exactly how you write everything ~ from your heart and soul. write what moves you, what irks you, what is good and bad…what is dark and light… this is YOUR place, and i think its important you dont have to censor yourself in your place, even tho it is public and there is a risk of those who are in the dark place reading it… because if no one ever blogged the hard/scary/happy/scary stuff ~ there wouldnt be a point to any of us keeping our blogs ~ which help us connect and feel less isolated and even hope to be in someone else’s shoes sometime soon.
i hope i am making sense. i am feeling a little off-center, i cant get into my blog to write and i am of course now with a plethora of things to share. i send myself emails so that i can post my thoughts how they were at the time, but it isnt the same…
love you ~ now pass me a glass of wine, please…
xo
I agree that you should write about as much or as little as you feel it necessary. Each blog is very personal to that person. If someone comes across your blog and is put off by the details, then they can choose not to come back.
But, if talking about things in detail helps you, or helps someone else, then you have done what’s best!
(Here from NCLM)
Share! Share!
I say share just because I want to know about others that are in the trenches. On my blog I put as much information as I want to remember. If I dont want to remember it, I dont put it down.
I’m with Sarah - what’s oversharing? Just don’t leave out all the details of the other bits of your life, cos I love reading those too.
Hurrah for the pre-period.
The new look is fantabulous.
I think the sharing thing depends on a few factors–whether you want it to be a record of the experience to look back at later on. Or whether you want feedback on some details. Or whether you start feeling like a giant walking uterus and want to simply acknowledge where you are in the cycle and then chat about the wine you’re missing.
I definitely think the detailed ones are interesting and great for those who are looking answers. But I also understand the posts that simply mention the IF stuff in passing and then go into stories about other things.
How will I ever know wha
Sorry, I hit enter in the middle of a word!
So:
How will I ever know what really goes on in an FET cycle if bloggers of the over sharing variety don’t write about it! Also, this is your blog, and you get the support you need, don’t worry about readers, they can read something else if they feel overwhelmed by the content.
Juicy details, please!
I don’t have much to see on how much detail you should include since I’m not an infertility blogger but I do love the new look!
Love the new look! I like blunt, raw, honest details.. usually shared very succinctly. I wish I could do that better, but I look up to those who do. You are one, along with Akeeyu from HerVeryOwn and Julie from A Little Pregnant. Oh, and Bea from Infertile Fantasies.
Love the new header!
I love all the details, share away! I want to know about your toenail polish color, parking fees *and* E2s daily, please.
I never, even while in the shits, disliked reading others’ cycle stories. Others’ pg stories, sure, but not cycling. Nevah!
personally, i want to hear it ALL… every detail. i love your new blog look. the only part i don’t care for is the blue background with the little white lines. the blue is really pretty but the lines make it difficult (for me) to read the text that falls over it. not sure if anyone else has that issue. oh and, hey… i have an unopened PIO. would you like me to send it to you? does it help offset costs? let me know and it’s yours!
It’s really hard to tell what to share. I’m not a sharer by nature (unless I feel I really have something to add like where to buy Mexican clomid). But, I often depend upon other blogs to give me the low down that the officials (website or doctors) won’t. It let’s me see what’s coming.
First of all, love the new blog look!
Secondly, please don’t leave out any details. I am not TTC any longer, but when I was, I purposefully looked for blogs with TONS of details. I wanted graphic description of cervical mucus and all! I mean, I was totally obsessed with every minute detail of my own cycle and I needed info and verification from as many others as I could get. If it is too much for people, they can click somewhere else. If you are willing to share…share!
I say, don’t spare any details. Your readers are grown up’s who will have to deal with they’ve read, should they so choose to do so. I think the cathartic value of writing all the lurid details is your right and the whole point of the blog! Be selfish and post away!
Lovvvvve the new, btw!!! Stunning!
So well-written! No, please share EVERYTHING!!!!! I want to know it ALL so that I don’t feel that I’m not NORMAL..and the feelings that we go through is very NORMAL.
i’m definitely coming back to read your next post.
Ack! I love the sperm going for the O!!! Fantastic!
And I vote you write every last detail.
1) Love the little spermies
2) details, details!
Yes, every detail! You see, we are all personally involved. Plus, I am just generally nosy.
As I’m trying to remind myself here, it’s your blog and you share what you feel comfortable with, right?
The new header looks totally tremendous!
Personally I love details — so I say bring ‘em on if you want to. And, enjoy the wine!
I’m a chronic undersharer myself.
But when I read other people’s blogs, what I’m really looking for is the part that’s written between the lines. In other words, it’s less the substance of what the blogger says or the number of details she provides than the window the writing gives me into the writer’s thoughts and feelings. In other words, whatever a particular post is ostensibly about, the real subject, for me, is the blogger herself.
I always shared. Lots. I figured that a)that’s why I blog and b) it helps me remember just what those times were like, both the good bits and the incredibly shite ones.
J
Hi there! I say, lay it ALL out!
here from NCLM. Good luck on the next cycle!!!
All the bits and pieces please. Oh, and your header is SEXY. Don’t ask me to explain it, this is coming from someone who calls her cat sexy all the time. But your header IS sexy.
I am all for ALL details. The juicier, the grosser, the higher the ick factor, the better.
At the same time though, blog to the degree that YOU need to. We’ll all read anyway
Being a nosy parker myself, I say SHARE and share a shit load
LOVE the new look!!!
I want DETAILS. Maybe that’s just me, but I do. So, if you’re inclined to share them, bring them on. (If, of course, you don’t want to, then I respect that totally.)
First, I LOVE THE NEW LOOK!!! I would like all the details please.
I love all the details! I sometimes overshare, and sometimes undershare. But I’m finding that I often refer back to my oversharing times to see what happened at X point 2 cycles ago, etc. So it’s helpful for me I guess. And I like the new header art, btw.
bring it ON, darlin’, bring it ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can’t wait!
I want to know everything, just like everyone else!! xx
Well, I am speaking up to say that I hope you don’t leave out a damn thing– reading about these experiences (especially in the voice of someone so freaking smart and funny) keeps me sane. Keep sharing!
ALL the details, girl. And I LOVE the new blog look. Well done.
Love, LOve, LOVE your new header!! Daisy
love the new header and I say, spill as much as you are comfortable with. The people that read your blog read it because they want the full experience. I say bring it!
LOVE the new look!
And I, personally, would love every single juicy (and even the not-so-juicy) details!
