What a three day holiday weekend means.

Five Words: Anne of Green Gables Marathon

Serious bliss and crushing out on Gilbert and drooling over Prince Edward Island and thinking maybe I should be a school teacher and how would my hair look all piled on my head like that and wondering if they sell raspberry cordial at Target and would it really get me to that fun drunk?

It’s ridiculous really because, nerd that I am, I actually own every installment of the mid 80′s PBS version. And yet whenever I see that it is airing on PBS, usually over some long weekend or other, my heart does a little flip. I yearn to be in the school with Anne, I want to be friends with Matthew, I imagine myself grown and outspoken like Marilla.

And Anne isn’t the only thing that sucks me into long weekend happiness- I am pretty much a sucker for any type or marathon situation. First season of America’s Next Top Model? Why not. You’ve Got Mail back to back to back? Yes please. Wizard of Oz and Sound of Music double feature? Just get me a catheter and I am all set.

The truth is these movies actually ARE better when you stumble across them. I doubt you could force me to rent or go to the theatre to spend 2 hours waiting for Meg Ryan to realize that that Tom Hanks is her e-mail man. But if it is 10pm on a Saturday night and nothing else is on I will be tuned in, dialed in, sucked in. All for that one effing kiss at the end of the movie. Or for Captain Von Trapp to see Maria in her pink frilly dress. Or for the makeover montage for Dorothy and her friends.

If only there was a muppet channel. I might never leave the house.

You are so right. So many of those movies you mentioned I would bother to rent/buy the DVD but have them on TV, I’ll sit and watch, commercials and all.

Dude, you frighten me sometimes. I swear that sometimes I think you’re a separated-at-birth twin. Except that we have different mamas, and different ethnicities, and all that rot. :D

Man, if only that were on in Brooklyn! I wanted those braids so much! I haven’t seen it since I was a kid and I would love to loll around all weekend watching it.

Well, Memorial Day Weekend is SUPPOSED to be the Shirley MacLaine “Out On A Limb” full multi-hour showing(s). Where has that gone, I ask you? You know the one, where she meets the aliens in Peru, etc.??? Lots of etc. There’s nothing like non-holy holiday weekend marathons, is there? :-)

I agree. There has GOT to be a Muppet channel. I giggled when Elmo was on Paula’s Party last night, and said “If it wasn’t for Mr Jim, I’d be a red rug somewhere.” Love me my muppets.

I am a sucker for “Deadliest Catch”, “Dirty Jobs”, and “Band of Brothers” marathons. And they ALWAYS seem to run them during the holidays at my parents’ house. I ditched cable/satellite TV a couple of years ago, but I still get sucked in by that stuff.

For this Memorial Weekend, I rented a copy of Stephen King’s The Stand. I expect to thoroughly enjoy my three days off!

Oh – Anne of Green Gables. How the heart sings Cali! I fell in love with Anne (with an e) when I was nine years old (when I first read the book) and it has been a love affair ever since. And that lovely Gilbert. Maaarrrriiiiilllllaaaa and the day that Matthew dies in the paddock. Crushing.

I too love marathons, and Anne of Green Gables. And I definitely watch things on T.V. that I own on tape…the serendipity of broadcast is always so exciting.

When I am in the Bad Place, I just put on that scene from Sound of Music where Captain von Trapp and Maria dance together on the terrace outside the party and watch it on an endless loop. Dreamy.

I so love marathons. It’s wonderful to discover that a whole series of a show like Top Chef is airing in one day. And my wife and I will sit on the sofa and eat popcorn for hours when there’s a Twilight Zone marathon. There have been nights when we’ve stayed up into the wee hours watching Golden Girls for crying out loud. We’re both suckers for marathons of all kinds, and it always is best when they’re stumbled upon. It’s almost like an accidental holiday.

Anne of Green Gables….sigh. I remember getting the boxed set so many years ago. I think I know what I’ll ask for for my birthday (because they were VHS…I don’t even own a working VCR anymore). That and Labrynth. Again, sigh.

Ok, now I have to go see if my PBS station is playing Anne. I haven’t seen it in years.

I LOVE marathons. I wait all year for TCM’s all day marathons of Jean Harlow, Katherine Hepburn, Joan Crawford, etc.

Ooh, I just love Anne of Green Gables!! One of my favorites! A couple of months ago, I indulged in my own pity party to “celebrate” the arrival of AF by watching “The Continuing Story” – not nearly as good as the originals though.

Thanks for stopping by my blog…my little cousin and her bloggy fiancee are getting married next month! I too have much to learn in the blogging world, b/c I have no idea how they did it!!

I LOVE Anne of Green Gables. I still have the boxed 8-pack of paperbacks somewhere around here, AND the huge hardcover. My husband hasn’t made me throw them out yet. :) I’m totally searching for the next AoGG (i just made that acronym up) marathon on my DVR.
