(Or how to make sweet, Southern style, tea)

And now GM and I are going to enjoy our morning coffee and prepare to watch last night’s Miss America pageant. (did anyone else watch the TLC show leading up to the pageant? Go Miss Washington & Miss Alaska!)

Ah, so *that’s* how you make it! I’ve never had sweet tea myself, but do believe you either loive it or hate it….also, how impressed am I by the cleanliness of your stove?

    Ridiculously so.

Awesome!!! I’m going to make that right now. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

I don’t know if I dare make this, but the looooooove I developed for sweet tea in North Carolina…..well, maybe at least once. ;-) I was so sad when we drove north and started to hit states without sweet tea on the menu, and also without Hardee’s. OMG, do you have Hardee’s down there?? My northeastern heart is pounding.

P.S. Flick wants to sell me Hello Kitty. just FYI. (and just now WordPress chastised me with “You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.” I guess I *am* a northeasterner. heh.)

We’ve made sweet tea here, because of my Texas wife. Love it! And how sad is it that I know the pattern of your pitcher is called Cape Cod? Blame my antique-dealer parents (and Cape Cod collectors).

  7. I lived in Georgia for 8 yrs. That means my 13 yr old son spent many of his formative years there. He LOVES his Southern Style Sweet Tea. We tease that the southerners like a little tea with their sugar water. I make it for him as a treat. He knows if I try to sneak in Splenda. Dagnabit!

  8. Ok, tea is not my thing, but your tutorial is AMAZING!!! Seriously, it looks so great. Almost makes me want to make some…(and that is saying something!)

I am almost embarrassed to admit I make my pitcher of sweet tea with 3/4 C of sugar. I also use 8 tea bags and tend to brew for an hour. Might explain why I need so much sugar! I’ve never tried adding lemon – I’m going to have to give your tutorial a try!

I suggested you as the new blogger for the infertility diaries over at Redbook. Julie put up her goodbye post and asked for suggestions. I hope that wont be the thing that finally makes you call me an assh*t, but I really didn’t think you would mind. Of course I suggested you and then realized I should have sent you an email and asked you first. Anyway, I’ll just say that I am now in the mood for some tea.

    mmm. want tea.

oh my. that is my mema’s tea!!!
i swear to god, it is more addictive than crack. one summer, i got a hankerin’ for it, and so i made some. and then mom came home and drank some. and we made more, and drank more and it is a vicious (but delicious) cycle. tho, my mema’s “sunday dinner version” had real lemons, sliced and added to the tea. it gives it a different taste with the real lemons in in. but wow.

it is freezing cold and i just got home from buying healthy groceries for school (starting to watch the weight again *ahem*) and i SO want some sweet tea. your photos are gorgeous ~ thank you for the photo essay :)

    xo,
gypsy, who is going to finish drinking her vitamin energy water and try not to pout about No Sweet Tea.

mmmmmm. i grew up not knowing that this was “sweet tea,” it was just my mom’s “iced tea.” imagine my surprise when i found out what other Northerners called “iced tea!”

several restaurants serve it up here, and i always partake! i usually make it in the summer, but this may inspire me to do a winter brew.

and Lo: don’t know if you’ll see this, but there’s a Hardee’s on US30 in NE ohio. in case you ever find yourself thereabouts, i can give a more precise location. ;)

    Two questions:
what brand of tea do you use?
how big is your pitcher (1/2 gallon or gallon)?
I’ve largely given up sweet tea *sigh*, but I love to splurge every now and then. Yours sounds fantastic!

  17. FaihNo Gravatar says:

I don’t do the lemon, but yep, that’s how it’s done. Mmmmmm.

  18. gypsygrrlNo Gravatar says:

hey sara ~ we always use 2 cups for a gallon, as well!!!
ohh my. i may have to make some – just one pitcher.

and megan ~ i only grew up knowing this as “iced tea” myself… when the whole “sweet tea” thing started at mc’donalds and such, i was like HUH? and then i tasted it, and thought – THAT is iced tea!!! hehehe

i want tea now. What a cool slide show!
