The longest day EVER.

I could drag this post out like my day has, but I love you all too much to do that. Beta was 155, a doubling time of 1.42 days. Still not one of those Ferrari type of numbers, but I’ll take it. (& why does the betabase site always seem broken when I need it?)

Let’s just say that the wait today was hell. HELL.

This hell was exacerbated by the fact that at exactly 5pm I found out that the Clinic had never received my lab results from the local blood lab I go to. Yes. 5pm on New Year’s Eve I had to track down a real, live human being to tell me where the eff my labs had gone.

Turns out they had gone to the infectious disease specialist I had to meet with in October. Not that there was ANY indication that the lab results should go to that doctor. Finally it was sorted out and the blood lab swore they would fax the Clinic asap. (& no. They would not tell me my results over the phone.)

I had been in contact with the Clinic since I broke down and called them at 4pm crying and snotty looking for answers. I was told that they were still making calls and to calm the fuck down…or something like that.

Oh hell, I am not making any sense right now I am just, at this moment, allowing myself to feel a touch relieved.

Mother was home and holding my hand (and literally holding me up) when the call came. When I got off I cried. Oh good lord did I cry. This was the cry that I had been waiting to cry for days now. And as Mother patted my head she looked out the window and exclaimed, “oh. The stork is in the backyard.”

And because I know half of you didn’t believe me the first time- I blew my nose, got out my camera, and took a photo.

stork again

OMG, once again, I have STORKbumps! That’s so freakin weird and cool about the stork looking over your sholder. You’re going to have to tell your child about it some day. It’s kind of their totem… Anyway, GREAT number. You’re on your way, baby. :)

  2. BNo Gravatar on December 31st, 2007 4:00 pm

Whew! I’m sure I join MEEELIONS in breathing a collective sigh of relief for you.

Good job on the 155. A nice respectable doubling. The start of a nice, respectable journey.

    Congratulations,

    Bree

OMG!!!! Your own person good omen!!! Woo Hoo! And your doubling time was around 36 hours? That rocks!!!! Seriously killer time!

What a wonderful end of year story…and with pics! Oh Yeah!!!

Congrats on the great doubling time and on the stork again making an appearance to give you the sign you need!

I’m not even reading the whole post yet (so I might comment again) but from the Math Nerd I Love (Co): 155 is EXCELLENT. She had forewarned me to be cautious about any number below 72. Um, your number is DOUBLE THAT.

If the math nerd is celebrating, you can too.

Congratulations for news like this deserves to be given more than once. ;) I’m so very happy for you. Now chill a bottle of sparkling grape juice, and drink up tonight! I will definitely offer up a non-alcoholic toast in your honor tonight. xoxo

BTW, your beta doubling time in hours is something like 34 hours… MUCH better than that old 48-72 hours expectation. Exxxxcellent!

that stork rocks, as does your #! congrats–so freaking happy for you!

  13. CoNo Gravatar on December 31st, 2007 4:17 pm

Your number doubled and then more than doubled again in 72 hours… Yay!!!

Mine did that, too. My 15DPO beta was only 96, which the betabase showed as below the median, and um…I have a baby, so it didn’t matter. If you graph your betas, it’s the slope of the line (rate of change), not any individual number, that matters. So far, your slope is great! Really. Happy new year! No champagne for you this year!

    And hurray for the stork.

  14. asiaNo Gravatar on December 31st, 2007 4:19 pm

155 is a great number! I’m so glad that despite the lab results going missing and drawing out the nerve wracking wait, the news was well worth waiting for. And the stork - too cool - what a perfectly perfect sight.

  24. meanmamaNo Gravatar on December 31st, 2007 4:50 pm

ps- We in the twins circle mostly think the doubling rate is much more telling than the actual numbers.

Check out the hcg calculator on babymed.com if the one on betabase isn’t working. I’m currently 6w4d pregnant and used it to analyze (obsess) over my hcg levels. Now I just wait for the next ultrasound. That’s what you’ll be doing next!

  46. jeanNo Gravatar on December 31st, 2007 8:13 pm

Delurking to send major congratulations. Whew! That 155 is a beautiful number. Mine was 100 at 16dpo, and she turned 2 a couple of weeks ago. As you have already figured out, the marathon was not over with the appearance of two lines on a pregnancy test. But the good news is that with each hurdle you cross (the 6 wk ultrasound; the pg symptoms; hell, just waking up pg each day) it does get easier. And you find yourself slowly letting go of the anger, frustration and pain of infertility and embracing the sweet pea that is growing in your belly. Happy 2008 and much love and peace to you.

  47. Jen (yup, another one)No Gravatar on December 31st, 2007 8:16 pm

OMG. That is just enough to give you goose bumps, or stork bumps. And I am so freaking happy for you and that steadily rising beta. On a side note, of course the lab couldn’t give you YOUR results because freaking stupid HIPPA made it illeagal to give out lab results to the person they belong to. Yes this is a huge rant of mine. So sorry they made you wait for what is yours but glad you got the news.

  54. SarahNo Gravatar on December 31st, 2007 10:47 pm

another math commentary: your doubling time is in the fat part of the bell curve for *both* singleton and twin pregnancies. Which is both good news, and ambiguous news for the One or Two Iotas? playoff.
